About
I'm Erick, a senior software engineer who likes making complex web products easier to use and easier to build. I've spent more than a decade working across frontend engineering, performance, and product teams.
Now
These days, I'm at Tailor Tech, building modular ERP software. I work directly with clients to understand what they need and help shape the product, and I'm updating its design system as it grows.
Before
Before that, I worked on Jira at Atlassian. I led a migration of 90% of its routes from a legacy server-rendered setup, improving page loads by about 400 ms. I also worked on React performance, dark mode, and the issue creation experience. At Xero, I helped relaunch xero.com, introduced TypeScript into its React and AEM stack, and mentored newer developers.
Earlier work at AKQA included accessible digital services and content sites built with teams in Australia and Japan. I've also worked at Catch Group, the Bureau of Meteorology, Indietech, and Vedaleon Technologies. One project from that time, Aussie Dream Chaser, won multiple awards at GovHack 2017.
Background
I studied software engineering at the University of Wollongong and later completed a master's in information technology, specialising in human-computer interaction, at the University of Melbourne. I still like asking questions before reaching for a solution, then getting hands-on with the people who will live with the result.
